Jonesport Town Overview & History

Jonesport is tucked along Maine’s Downeast coast, on a narrow peninsula that reaches out into the Atlantic in Washington County. It sits roughly between Bar Harbor and Eastport along the Bold Coast Scenic Byway, with Machias and U.S. Route 1 just inland and Beals Island connected by a short bridge to the south. On the map, you’ll see Jonesport surrounded by coves, inlets, and small spruce-covered islands that give the shoreline its rugged, intimate feel.

For visitors, that geography means you’re close enough to well-known destinations for easy day trips, but far enough off the main tourist routes to feel peaceful and unhurried.
